Sleep

Boston is not known for its cheap hotels. Budget internet sites are almost essential for finding an affordable and comfortable hotel downtown. Note that many urban bed and breakfast hotels are available in Boston, Cambridge, and Brookline but may require some research to find.

Budget

B&B's

  • The College Club of Boston, 44 Commonwealth Ave, 617-536-9510, Fax: 617-247-8537, [1]. Reasonably priced B&B in the Back Bay neighborhood, next to the Boston Public Gardens. Close to Copley Square, Boston Common, Prudential Center, Freedom Trail, Downtown Crossing Shops, Newbury Street and more. Small historic brownstone overlooking Commonwealth Avenue Mall. Advertised rates between $80 and $200 as of 10/2006.
  • Yun's Place, 66 Hopedale Street, 617-987-2085, [2]. A stone's throw from Harvard Business School, 15 minutes from Harvard Square. Free use of a computer and the Internet. Innkeepers are friendly and accommodating. $109 as of 3/2008.


  • Beacon Inn, 1087 & 1750 Beacon St, 617-556-0088, 1-888-575-0088, http:\\www.beaconinn.com. Two locations on Beacon St, on the Green C-Line Train. Restored Victorian Brownstones with affordable rates, continental breakfast, Internet, and cable TV. Close to both BC and BU, as well as Coolidge Corner and Washington Square. Short train ride to downtown Boston attractions. Quaint, Quiet, and Comfortable. Your Home Away From Home.

Hostels

  • Hostelling International, 12 Hemenway St, and 575 Commonwealth Ave, 617-536-9455, [3]. Dorms $32-35/$35-38 members/non-members; Private doubles $70-$100 ($3 additional charge for non-members). This is expensive as far as hostels go, but perhaps the cheapest decent option you'll find in Boston. Nice location and friendly staff. The Commonwealth Ave location is a Boston University dormitory that is open yearly from mid-May through August.
  • Beantown Hostel, 222 Friend St (near North Station and the TD BankNorth Garden), 617-723-0800. This popular spot is near lots of night spots and not too far from the North End. Watch out for the 2AM curfew.

Advertised rates between $89 and $239 as of 3/2006. Free parking.

Westin is located in the Copley end of the mall next to Neiman Marcus, and Sheraton is located at the end of the Prudential next to Prudential tower, and the Marriott is located in between. Visitors staying at these hotels would appreciate its close proximity to shopping and most locations within the Back Bay area.
